Experimenting with Horror

My latest short film is an experiment in two ways. The first, it’s a “resource driven” project where I wrote a script utilizing only what I had available, limiting myself to expecting to have no budget or access to new props or locations. The second part of the experiment is inviting filmmakers to take the script and allowing them to shoot their own version of it.

We’re currently in post-production and will have this out soon. Until then, if you would like to be part of the experiment, please visit the page on my FX site, read up on what I’m doing, and then download the script.

Good luck everyone, you’re gonna need it.

Today is the two year anniversary of my work with the short comedy series “How to Get a Life” filmed down here in Atlanta. It was a quick weekend of comedy, and I had a blast.

My work as a production designer has amassed so many credits this year that my portfolio has outgrown this website. The website is now finished, and I’ll be premiering it next week.

I am *so* far behind in my updates, but I guess that’s what happens when your house burns down. Good news is I’m back to where I need to be, so now I’m chained to my desk and frantically climbing to the top on my to-do list with the same energy I use to ignore all the clean laundry sitting on my easy chair waiting to be folded.

I’ve already gone ahead and updated my crew resume with the last *five* videos I didn’t have on there yet, so if you want to skip ahead of the line and check them out, go for it. Otherwise expect a few updates over the course of the next few weeks.

In the meantime, here’s one of the latest videos I worked on.

A few months ago I had the pleasure of working with Digital Thunderdome as they produced Nine Shrines’ latest video “Nimrod.”

What you’re seeing is my discipline as a production designer/scenic artist as I decorated an abandoned mill to look like the lived-in workshop of a tortured artist. Not only did I fabricate those mannequins, but I also painted all of the acrylic art scattered throughout the scene.

So check out the video below, and if you’re into the “behind the scenes” sort of stuff, I’ve got a link to my portfolio that shows the steps I took in decorating the set, and the terrible things I did to the actor.

Now that the last project I worked on was cleared for release, that means I get to talk about it. So head on over to the crew credits page here and click on the bright and shiny new link at the top of the list. If you can’t figure out which link that is, I’ll give you a clue: it rhymes with “Sevendust.”

Okay I’m bad at clues. But there it is.

So check out the video below, and if you’re into the “behind the scenes” sort of stuff, I’ve got a link to my portfolio that shows the steps I took in building the set and decorating it for this project.

I’ve been pretty busy recently on and off set, but today I found some time to update my website. I added a few photos from my time as a make-up artist at Nightmare’s Gate last year, and I also included a picture taken at the Days of the Dead: Atlanta FX Competition, where I got to judge alongside legends like the artist Chris Black, as well as horror film icons P.J. Soles and C.J. Graham.

Below is the official announcement attached to our win this year. This was my third year of entering the competition, and this year I assembled a team of very talented people to help me see my vision come to life. They nailed my expectations beyond my imagining. I’m honoured to be in their presence and I’m blessed by their dedication.

Cassie, Mistie, Natalia, Mary Jane, and Kim, thank you for everything!

“First off, a MASSIVE thank you to all models, make-up artists and photographers who participated in the 5th annual Atlanta ZOMBIE PIN-UP Contest. Overall, we had 52 entries this year!”

Ouch.

Speaking of mailing lists, if you’re a member of mine, you would’ve gotten the exclusive first look at the new page here on my website. However, it’s now been made public, so feel free to come check out my latest portfolio. Feast your eyes on my special effects makeup gallery. Just don’t… feast on eyes, because that’s weird and gross.
