Hooray! FireStorm Industries

Nothing like "Happy Hour" at the burn ward.

Congratulations to my fire performance troupe for another full year without any serious show-threatening accidents. Here’s hoping for more for next year… Here’s a promotional project from the beginning of the season.

Also, we’re currently looking to book places. If you’ve got a party, event, or gallery that needs some stupid human tricks, you know where to go.

Fangoria Appearance

I guess since the cover has been released, I can go ahead and announce it now. I will be appearing in the Halloween issue of Fangoria Magazine.

It hits the streets September 10th. Grab a copy. I’ll sign it.

I’ll talk more about it once the issue is out.

(Edit: I’ll talk more about it once I get my hands on a copy as well…)

So About This Blog…

I keep meaning to update this blog with something new and interesting, but honestly I haven’t found the time. The only reason I’m posting something now, is because I’m waiting for something to render in the background.

I’ve become a victim of the economy, but I’m certainly not spending my time in my boxers playing video games, no matter how hard I feel I’ve earned that right. Instead of gone into “freelance mode”. What does this mean? It means I’m actually spending more time out of my week working than I did when I had a full-time job. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I try to play video games, but after about an hour I find my head drifting off and rummaging through my inbox. Which is funny, because it’s supposed to be the other way around right?

Hello World…

So, after a few minutes of struggling, I created a blog on my own domain. Then I did something very unclever. I attempted to import and sort entries and comments from over 10 years of other blogs. Normally wouldn’t've been that big of a deal, but out of the six plus megs of data, thousands of entries, and a few dozen thousands of comments connected to said entries, 95% of them were labeled as “private” or “restricted” or “locked”.

Fangoria? Yes. Fangoria.

Growing up as a kid, I was raised on comic books. I don’t just mean the standards like DC or Marvel. I learned how to read lost in the pages of  Warren Publishing. Conan, Red Sonya, Vampyrella, Creepy. The tabloid-sized world of high fantasy and 70′s occult.

As such, dreams were born. A child dreamed of legend. A young man believed the attainable. “One day,” he thought to himself as he stared at the Metal Hurlant posters tacked to the wall, “one day my art will grace these pages.”

Well, unfortunately, my dreams outlasted the publishing company, but I never let go of those moments. Also, sometimes a path isn’t a straight line.

A Blog on Blogging.

Anyways, I’ve also gone ahead and created a blog, something I haven’t really had since I last had a domain a few years ago. Shit, I was blogging before the term even existed; we’re talking back in the era of E/N sites. StileProject didn’t have porn ads, there was no blogosphere. I’m a little shocked. Back in the day there really wasn’t much out there in terms and resources for anyone who wanted to have a ‘blog’ (man, i *still* feel weird even using that term.). You wanted a blog, you opened up notepad and you wrote it yourself. You wanted links, you went out there and looked for them. Then you e-mailed other webmasters and you bartered for reciprocal links.

Now it’s a simple matter of creating a blog, then clicking a few links. Traffic is created for you. Images are generated online instantly. Templates are everywhere. Honestly, if you have the information architecture, you don’t really need anything else. Follow the directions, do a quick google search and you will never have to contact a web designer the entire time. Sounds great, unless you’re one of them.
